WORLD CLASS TOWEL FACTORIES

As a retailer it is important to decide if a towel factory has the production capacity to make the order that the customer is looking for.

Since the manufacturing of towels is not new and has been done for decades, there are many towel factories in the world that are old with old and inefficient equipment. While these towel factories maybe inexpensive in prices, because their equipment has been paid for years ago, they do not have the quality of equipment to make the highly technical products that are in the market place today.. These towel factories are excellent sources for making the open end and low quality ring Spun towels that fit into the $1.99-$2.99 bath towel price points or for making assorted wash cloths and shop cloths. These price points do not require the technology nor the quality control that higher prices and higher quality demands.

There are towel factories in China, India and Pakistan that have over a thousand looms. But what type of looms do they have. The older shuttle looms may be inexpensive and allow the factory to produce toweling that is very well priced, but they are unreliable, make many mistakes and thus the quality is not as high as on the newer looms that run faster and make fewer mistakes. 1000 shuttle looms running at 110 picks per minute can only make the same as 160 air jet shuttles looms running at 600 PPM.

So all of the major towel factories in the world have invested in the newest and fast and most accurate high-speed air jet looms.

The largest Towel factories in the World (in alphabetical order):

  • Abhishek Trident - India
  • Coteminas - Brazil
  • Sunvim - China
  • Welspun - India
  • Westpoint Home - Pakistan

Above are the top 5 producers of Towels in the World. I have not given you, which are number 1 or 2 etc. Because that depends upon how you make that judgment. Is it the number of looms? Well, there are factories that have more looms than any of the top 5, yet are not in this list because they have slow shuttle looms and cannot produce the large amounts of towels these factories do. Is the judgment the number of pieces they produce? Well then a factory selling only low price small washcloths might be the largest. Is it the number of KG’s the factory can produce or is producing, this can change from day to day. Also, each of these towel factories are adding capacity on a regular basis so one might have 350 looms today, but be adding 48 more tomorrow.

In general, these are the largest, not particularly the best, but these towel factories make huge numbers of towels and generally have quality control process in place to give both the retail customer and the consumer confidence that the product will be of above average or better quality.

All of these towel factories are" Vertical" in their production, meaning that they begin the towel processing with the raw cotton, spin, prepare, weave, dye and finish all under a single business unit.

These towel factories have the modern equipment, the trained personnel, and the quality control process in place to give you the assurance that you will receive a good or even better quality product. That does not mean that smaller mills around the world do not make excellent products, they certainly do, just that these mills have invested in the technology to be able to make excellent products on a consistent basis.

These factories are the mass producers of towels; they make the huge solid color programs you will see on the back wall of the retail stores across the world.

As I spoke about before, there are many excellent towel mills throughout the world which pride themselves on high quality products and have excellent quality control.

While these factories may not be "Vertical", meaning that they purchase their yarns from out side spinning factories or from the companies named above, they still have well trained employees and top of the line equipment.

Some of our favorites include:

  • Sharadha - India
  • Loftex - China
  • Zorbatex - South Africa
  • Kapoor - India
  • Qingdao Xiyngmen - China

There are others we have not named that would easily fit into this category, but we have seen outstanding products and excellent delivery services from these companies in the past.
